CZAR 2013
500€
Czar is the title of the rulers of the Russian Empire, who for centuries sent ships to acquire the sought after Pico traditional wine, found in 1917 in great quantities in the palace cellars of Czar Nicolau II.
Produced in the middle of the Atlantic, on Pico island's centenary vineyards growing on top of volcanic rock, Czar is the only wine in the world that naturally reaches an alcohol level of 19%.
“The nose is gorgeous, with spicy gingerbread and butterscotch, which notes follow through on a powerful, intense palate, slippery (glycerol) with succulent, pungent (but not too pungent) saltbush, brine, spice and earth – the smell of Pico’s coastal shrubland and taste of the sea captured in the bottle. Firm, dry, long.” Sara Ahmed.
Only 863 bottles were produced of the 2013 Czar.
